My dear mom passed away in 2013. The one thing in her garden that she absolutely loved were her ROSES. I moved into her house after she passed and dumped a lot of my energy and passion into reviving the poor things. I had the gardener kill off and pull out all of the moss, and I replaced it with lovely bark mulch. I sprayed for fungus and fertilized. So here they are in good health again. Just keeping Mom’s memory alive and well. Love you, Mom!

Dad passed away in 2009. He was always working in the yard. One of his passions (and passed on to me) was growing plumeria. All of the ones you see here are from cuttings he brought back from Hawaii MANY years ago (Fun Fact: Plumeria originated in the Caribbean and South America, and later showed up in Hawaii!). After he passed, Mom was not able to take care of them so they fell by the wayside. Then when I moved in, well, you can figure it out. Cutting back, sprucing up, and FEEDING the starving things. And poof! Magnificent specimens. It killed me to leave them behind in SoCal when I moved to SoFlo.

Growing plumeria is one of my passions…..oh, did I already mention that? These starter plants came from a nursery in Hawaii as bare stalks last December. The intricacies and color patterns of each flower. The raindrops beading up on each one like a freshly waxed car.
In case any of you are interested in taking up this passion, I highly recommend www.plumeria101.com . Regarding fertilizer:
- I love Grow More’s Hawaiian Bud & Bloom….5-50-17
- After they come out of dormancy (depends on where you live – winter/spring) and when new leaves appear, I start feeding them every 2 weeks…..up until they start going dormant again in the winter.
